Shots: There are different scenes/shots inside a house. The first shot is in a kitchen, then proceeds for the second shot it is a hallway, the third shot is in a bathroom. AFter these three shots, the 1st and 3rd shot is shown again but differently because the scene is a lot dirtier than before (presenting the 4th and 5th shot). Altogether there are about six shots.
Sound/music: The advert created a specific song and had it performed by a dog and woman where the dog questions 'where's all the mud gone' where is the mess made in the house. While the woman sings about how effective cleaning can be with 'flash'. The music is very upbeat and has its dramatic moments to really emphasise the product's effectiveness. There is voice-over but no narration and I'd say the advert contains diegetic sound since the actors are the ones singing.
Mise en scene: The location is just in one house and the array of colours in the house (and furniture) all match blue, white and yellow, just like the colour inside and outside of the cleaning product. The advert has one specific product that is shown to us but in the end, there are more products to show the audience 'flash' is available for every dirty situation and cleans all impossible messes.
Editing: In the beginning, there is obvious zooming in and a close-up. There are no fancy edits apart from a jump cut where the advert moves quickly to different shots but still flows with good precision. I would say around 10 seconds into the advert there was a match out cut because there were bathtubs in both shots. There's also slow motion in the advert, and this ad has been edited to last 30 seconds (the minimum requirement when filming an advert).
Logo/ Slogan/ Caption: Throughout the whole advert towards the bottom right corner there is a logo ‘P&G'. Towards the end, the word 'cleans the impossible' would be the slogan in this advert.
Persuasive techniques: It was quite humorous having a dog sing and I'd also say they were rewarding in the advert psychologically saying this product 'cleans the impossible' so if there is something impossible that needs cleaning you should use 'flash'.
Meanings: In the advert about a cleaning product, the only people shown are a dog and a woman. The creators could be portraying that dogs make the house messy and women have to clean up all the messes in the house. But using 'flash' will help ease the trouble 'it works miracles' as mentioned in the song because certain stains are difficult.
Social/Cultural Context: Dogs make messes and women clean those messes.
A good attempt to use media language here. You could analyse the meanings / connotations throughout, so explaining where a specific shot connotes .... or editing connotes... instead of looking at it in summary at the end. Vanessa
