Task 3

1. The Guardian article

The article talks about how TV adverts were once important and watched whether people wanted to or not. But now technology has grown and people can easily skip adverts because it interferes with their TV schedule.

2. What are the main challenges faced by the advertising industry?

I'd say the main challenge in the advertising industry nowadays would be how to promote the advert and show an audience because barely anyone watches adverts. I don't think advertising industries struggle over how to make the advert interesting, the main issue would be how to get people to see it.

3.What is native advertising, branded content and targeted advertising?

Native advertising is the form the ad is in and function of the user's experience in which it is placed, whether it is at the top or bottom (there's an example below).

As for branded content, that is telling a story in an organic way so it doesn't feel like advertising, you could say it's the diffusion of entertainment and branded information being delivered ina non-traditional way.

Lastly, targeted advertising is a form of advertising where online advertisers serve a specific advert to a particular audience using various methods to target users with certain traits, based on the product or person the advertiser is promoting.

4. How effective are the native adverts we watched?

I'm not sure if they're that effective if they're just placed on the side because a lot of users will ignore the adverts also if there is a pop-up, many users will block or try to close the ad as quickly as possible, even skip it. In my opinion native advertising is a good idea but not VERY effective it is a little bit but not much. I could be wrong but if you think about the pros and cons it seems unlikely native adverts are an effective use of seeking the attention of the audience.
